This is a cute story that gives you a break from all the heavy revenge and scheming. The MC is not cold or vengeful, nor is she a super genius that makes every person kowtow to her in respect. Instead, she's a sweet and innocent young girl in love (with a book character), much like many of us. There is some scheming and court intrigue in the story, but it isn't the main focus since we will be reading Mei Yanran's story and not the Female Lead's (the MC of the novel that Mei Yanran had transmigrated into.)
The Male Lead that she transmigrates for is quite fine. There are types of characters that might be awesome in one genre and setting, but just bleh in another. Ling Fengxiao (the ML) is probably one of the few Male Leads in xianxia that I would like no matter which setting or genre he was in. He doesn't get as much screen time as the second male lead (the prince) in the beginning, but seeing as how interesting the prince is and how he's only a side character, I can only imagine what the author has in store for the real male lead.
There's just so many things to like about this story. For one, it isn't cliche. Mei Yanran actually chose to transmigrate into the book with her own original face, which was somewhat ordinary if not cute, rather than choosing one that could cause the downfall of many cities, making the story more practical. Because the author knows Chinese and is very familiar with the culture, I feel like this story has something extra to it that I couldn't find in many of the other C-novels I've read on Wattpad. For example, the names of the characters weren't randomly chosen just going off of how good they sounded. Each name had a meaning that complemented the character's traits or role in the story.
The writing is very well done. In the story description, the author claims she will be doing minimum editing. If bad grammar and punctuation ruin your reading experience, you don't have to be worried. Ruyi's 'unedited' piece is as good as an already edited story on Wattpad. It's just not at the professional level she usually aims for as a translator of volarenovels. You'll actually find that this is one of the higher quality originals on Wattpad.
Although there's only a couple of dozen chapters out, I urge you to read it now. The author updates frequently, and if she has the time, she even gives double or triple updates at once. This is one of the kinds of stories that are more enjoyable when you're reading it while the author is still writing it.
