Annalise Rosier was turned when she was sixteen years old. Born in 1445 in Windsor Castle, Berkshire, England under the reign of Henry VI, she and her twin brother, Theodore, were heirs to one of the most powerful, wealthy noble families in all of England. With a loving mother and power-hungry father, their life was as average as it could get for someone of their standing until the birth of their little brother, Elliot, and the subsequent death of their mother due to the strain of childbirth. Throwing the blame of his wife's death on all three of his children, Lord Rosier began taking out his grief on Annalise, Theodore and Elliot.

On the way home from the market one fateful day, Annalise was attacked by a nomad vampire who left her for dead in the forest nearby Windsor Castle. Three days later, Annalise woke up in a desolate area, irrevocably changed and craving blood. She spent an entire year roaming the area, trying to teach herself control over her bloodlust so that she could return home to her dearest brothers. As soon as she felt confident that she would not rip her brother's necks open, she confronted Theodore, who immediately wished to join her in immortality. They would wait for Elliot, who was only nine at the time, to grow up some more before changing him, and they would lie in wait in the shadows, using their newfound abilities to protect their baby brother if their father ever dared lay his hand upon him. Two years later, while Annalise and Theodore went out to hunt, they returned to their brother dying in a pool of his own blood and had no choice but to change Elliot at eleven years old.

The three siblings wandered on their own, strengthening and perfecting their vampiric abilities for four hundred years. In the eighteen hundreds, they met the Denali Coven and became fast friends with Eleazar and Tanya. Although not willing to try out the "vegetarian" diet themselves, they respected the fact that the Denalis were able to so absolutely control their bloodlust. Throughout the years, they would visit them in Alaska or wherever other place they were staying just to drop in and say hello, which is how the got roped up into the predicament of the Cullens and their mortal-immortal child.
