Priapulida - the Penis Worm

Welcome to a small diversion from my Octopus research:

If you look closely at the blood chart on the previous page, you will see there is a small group of creatures with purple or violet blood, including the above-mentioned Penis Worm. So-named because of a physical resemblance only!

You can blame  JMills_  for pointing them out to me.

Priapulida, to give them their proper name, live in mud at the bottom of the  sea. They are descended from very ancient species, with early fossils dating from over 500 million years ago in the Middle Cambrian period.
