"i love you."

"i'm...sorry, what was that?" y/n tilted her head to the side, not believing that she was hearing ayato correctly.

"i...i love you, y/n," ayato blurted out, his voice barely above a whisper but filled with undeniable sincerity. the girl's breath caught in her throat, her eyes widening in shock at her classmate's confession. for a moment, there was silence between them, the only sound being the gentle rustle of leaves in the night breeze.

there was no way this was happening, that's what both of them were thinking. ayato couldn't help but regret saying those three words, but it was too late to go back now whilst y/n was shocked beyond all recognition, rendered speechless. ayato didn't know what to do, standing here like an idiot as he waited for her response.

his dark eyes trailed downward and glanced at his hand wrapped around her wrist. 'should i let go of her?' he let out a small sigh, but soon came to his conclusion: no. he didn't want to. if she didn't like him back, not only would ayato die a hundred times over, but he could always revert to his second plan and lock her up in his basement, he hoped he wouldn't have to stoop so low. he respected y/n and he didn't want to treat her like an animal.

then, slowly, a small smile tugged at the corners of y/n's lips, her eyes shining with emotion. still—ayato couldn't understand so much as a single one. was she embarrassed? happy? or feeling downright sorry for him? "ayato..." she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of the boy's racing heart. "look at me..."

but he couldn't. instead, he held his breath, still waiting anxiously for her answer, his heart pounding in his chest.

and then, to his utter relief and joy, y/n spoke up, finally breaking the silence, "i...um..." she took a step forward and then reached out to cup his cheek gently, searching his eyes. was she confused about her emotions? ayato hoped that wasn't the case. biting his lower lip with anticipation, he looked down at her sadly. "i think i like you too," she confessed, her voice trembling with emotion.

it wasn't definite, but ayato will take it over a flat-out rejection any day. ayato's heart soared at her words, a surge of happiness flooding through him as he pulled y/n into a warm embrace, holding her close to him as if he never wanted to let her go.

ᴛɪᴍᴇ ꜱᴋɪᴘ...

"旦那さん..." y/n groaned as she climbed onto the couch and rested her head on ayato's lap, looking up at him with a small frown. when the dark-haired boy peered down to meet her gaze, he smiled. she looked so adorable like this. "hubby, when do you think i'll be able to meet your parents?" as much as ayato would love to be his darling's husband right about now, they're just boyfriend and girlfriend—which is more than enough for him. they've been dating for a little over four months now and everything has been going perfectly in ayato's eyes.

he's finally gotten what he wanted.

"i don't know," he said, honestly. ayato then let out a small sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose. "they're supposed to be getting off their cruise next week, or so my dad keeps telling me..." he added, hoping that response would be enough to satisfy y/n.
