Dana got out of the backdoor of the luxury sedan, dropped his duffle on the gravel and closed the car door gently. He stared, standing still and silent, as his parents drove away, leaving him behind in the dust for the whole summer.
"Oh, my," Bunk Mother Amanda said, as soon as she got up close to the boy. She kept looking from her clipboard and then back again, as if that would make a difference somehow. "You can't possibly be–"
"Dana, Ma'am."
"But you're not a girl... Are you?"
"No, Ma'am. I'm a boy, all right. They're forever making that mistake. Dana is a boy's too. It's Swedish."
"No," Amanda decided, shaking her head sagely. "Boss Campbell is most definitely not going to like this one tiny bit."
