Aurora POV

My eyes widened in alarm as shock moved through me, "Everyone get back!"

I threw my arms up as I pushed the breeze out, "Murus."

The fire pushed against the wall of wind, moving up and out, but not able to touch any member of the pack.

"Per se qui e fracta toi," she started as flames circled me. Xander tried to press against the circle, but the boundary wouldn't allow him to pass, "per se qui e total t-"

Playing with the charm around my name, I focused on the protection charm Sam had given me. Pulling magic from the small pendant, I quickly chanted the spell.

"Fluctus inpulsa," the words sending shockwaves into Iris, disorienting her and stopping the spell before it shattered my hands.

Iris's anger screams through the field, "Phasmatos morsinus pyrox allum."

Pain screamed through me as I crippled down to the ground.

"Aurora!" I can hear Xander yelling for me, anguish and pain filling his voice.

I tried to hold back, but the pain intensified as it flowed through the mate bond. It only took a few moments before I could feel myself start to scream.

I could hear deep growling as the pack became agitated over their Luna being in pain. I may not completely understand the link I have with the wolves, but I do know that they can feel when I am in pain.

They can feel a fraction of the spell, and they will attack Iris to end it.

As I screamed against, I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. A flash of blonde hair headed straight towards Iris.

"Amara! Don't!" I yell out after realizing only one witch would come to my aid against Iris.

She plowed right into Iris, knocking them both to the ground and effectively cutting off Iris's spell. Amara scrambled to stand, copying Iris's movements.

"You shouldn't have interfered, Amara," Iris sneered at her.

"I won't let you harm my friend anymore," Amara says, looking towards me with a meaningful look.

Her eyes held guilt as she took a small step towards me before focusing back on Iris. She was thinking about last year. She wasn't at the coven when my sister died, instead she was visiting her father. When she returned home, I was on trial. She advocated for me, but it didn't matter.

I understood the reasons for her guilt, but she wasn't actually guilty. There was nothing she could have done to stop Iris.

"Then you can die with her," Iris replies.

I hear a low growl behind me, but I can't turn around to see who it was and try to anticipate what Iris is going to do.

Trying to pull myself from the ground, I feel my body fight against me.

"You might not be able to die by fire, but your friends can," Iris smiles brightly before she raises her hands again towards Amara, "Incindio."

"Reboundus," I spell, but I wasn't fast enough.

The fire knocks Amara back. She lands roughly next to me, the flames burning her before disappearing completely.

Before I can move closer to her, a brown blur rushes past me. The wolf stands protectively above her, releasing a low growl towards Iris.

Amara whimpers before the wolf lowers himself slightly, his underbelly brushing against her. The second he makes contact, Amara's whimpers stop.

"Wolves," Iris spat, turning her gaze back onto me, "I promise I will kill you for taking my husband, and I will kill all those who protect you."

Moving her hands in a fast motion before her, she disapparated.

"Where did she go?" I hear Hayden growl behind me.

"She's gone," I tell him before shifting closer to Amara only for the wolf to direct his growl towards me.

I feel sparks around my waist as Xander moves behind me, placing me in a tight hold. He growls lowly at the wolf.

"Stand down Asher," he orders, his alpha tone seeping into his words, "She just wants to help her."

The wolf looks down at Amara quickly before nodding his head and moving off of her.

Moving forward, I looked over her burns quickly.

"Sanguinatum planicium. Sanguinatum planicium," I repeat over and over again, trying to mend as much of the damage as I can.

"Is she going to be alright?" Asher moves closer as he tosses on a pair of shorts someone tossed him after he changed back. He sits to place her head in his lap as he looks down at her in concern.

"I think so, but we need to take her to your healer immediately," I tell him, assessing her as fast and accurate as I can, "Most of the burns aren't too bad. She might have some scarring, but she will live."

"I'll take her," he says as he carefully lifts her in his arm. She lets out a small whimper and the look Asher holds on his face when he hears the sound pierces my soul.

Xander pulls me up and into his arms as Asher runs off to the pack hospital with Amara.

"Are you alright? Are you still in any pain?" he rattles off questions about my health as he looks me over, head to toe.

I place my palm over his heart as I try to reassure him, "I'm fine. I'll be drained for a while, but I will alright."

I can tell he doesn't believe me as he keeps looking me over, trying to find any sign that I'm still in pain.

When he eventually gives up, he pulls me closer to his chest. Curious to his thoughts, I listen in.

Never let mate go, I hear his wolf Kai keep repeating.

I'm safe, I tell him, opening my mind so he can see for himself, I'm safe.

"Alpha, Luna," Hayden interrupts us, "We should head back into the pack. The border still needs to be swept for any more witches."

Nodding in understanding, I look up at Xander, "I need to go see Amara. She risked her life to protect me. I need to make sure she will be fine."

He places a soft kiss on my forehead in agreement before he looks back at Hayden, "Keep the patrols running through the night. I want to know if someone gets even a funny feeling."

He nods once before turning back to some of the warriors and taking off towards the western border. My eyes wander to the trees as I keep my guard up.

Irene may have freed me from my sentence, but the witches were still close by. One false move and she could still decide war is in the witches' best interest.

Xander gives my waist a soft squeeze to draw my attention back to him, "Let's get going."

I give him a small smile. Giving one last glance towards the woods, I turn and leave the field.
