While sipping tea in the library, Mrs Otis observed a dull red stain on the floor just by the fireplace. Mrs Otis ordered it to be removed. Mrs Umney told them the blood stain dated back to 1575 when lady Eleanore de Canterville was murdered by her husband, Sir Simon Canterville. Washington Otis tried the famous American paragon detergent to clean the stain. As he started scrubbing the bloodstain, they witnessed thunder and lightning.
This made Mrs Umney terrified. No sooner the bloodstain was cleaned. Mr and Mrs Otis assured that they did not believe in ghost. Mrs Umney walked to her room.
