Seeing that he had upset Virginia, the only person who had shown concern for him, the ghost begged for forgiveness and pleaded her to stay back. He explained her that he had been awake for the past three hundred years and that he wanted to sleep in the churchyard, though he called it the "Garden of Death".
He also told Virginia that if she would weep for him and pray for him, the angel of death may accept him and his troubles would be over forever and he would get salvation.
