In the spring of 1890, Virginia was married to the Duke of Chesire and when they returned to Canterville Chase from their honeymoon, Virginia and the Duke visited the grave of the ghost, where she placed the roses.
The Duke asked Virginia what had happened between the ghost and her that evening, but she refused to reply, saying only that the ghost had taught her "What Life Is, What Death Signifies And Why Love Is Stronger Than Both."
