The next day, Gabriel woke me up. "Wakes wakey Cam." He said. I groaned. My mouth, teeth and jaw all hurt. "If you get up I'll give you pain medication." He tried to tempt me. I then sat up, and looked at him, and he smiled. "Come on Cammy. Let's get you some pain medicine." He said. He picked me up, carrying me downstairs, putting me down on the couch. Charlie, Finn, Mitchell and Tyler had all gone to work, so it was just me, Gabe, and the twins Kade and Nate who were sleeping. Gabe gave me the medication, and I just sat there watching TV. A few minutes later, Gabe handed me a smoothie for breakfast. "You're going to need energy, Cammy." He said. "You have an appointment with Mateo later today." I groaned. Gabe chuckled. "You'll be fine Cammy. He won't hurt you. You trust him right?" I nodded. "So you'll be fine." He said, coming over to sit next to me. I snuggled into him, and he turned on the TV. About an hour later, I got up and got dressed and washed up. I was going to practice my clarinet, because I'm in an orchestra, but then I relised I can't. Frowning, I texted Finn.
I need to practice clarinet but I can't. What do I do
Soon enough, he responded.
Can you wait until lunch? I'll come home and we can talk
Sure
Until then, I wasted my time away, watching YouTube, and running on the treadmill. Soon enough, Finn came home. He came up to my room, and told me to come downstairs. I followed him downstairs, and he sat on the couch, with his legs crossed, and patted his lap. I groaned, going to lay down, while Finn laughed. He cut the wire and took off all the elastics, and I sat up. "Cam, as you know, this hasn't really worked out, so tomorrow, you'll come to the office, and I'll put in a retainer that has a little spring in it, and it'll do basically the same thing." Said Finn. I sighed, and nodded. "I know you don't like the dentist, I'm sorry Cammy, but it'll get better." I nodded. I then went up to my room and practiced clarinet for an hour, before eating lunch. "Cam we're leaving in 10 minutes." Said Gabe. I nodded. Soon enough, I got in the car with Gabe, and he drove to his and Mateo's office. Gabe lead me inside, where Mateo was already waiting. "How are you doing today Cam?" He asked me. "I'm fine." I said. "Can I listen to your heart real quick?" He asked me. I backed away, hiding behind my brother. "Cammy, sweetheart, it's just a stethoscope." Said Gabe, showing me his. I sighed, and nodded to Mateo. "Thank you sweetie." Said Mateo. He listened to my heart, moving the stethoscope around to different places. "Take a deep breath in." He said. Soon enough, he removed his stethoscope from my body and wrapped it around his neck again. "Can I check your eyes and ears now Cam?" Asked Mateo. I nodded timidly, and Mateo looked in my eyes and ears. "Open your mouth and say ahh." Said Mateo. I opened my mouth, and he looked down my throat. "All good Cam. I'm going to check your reflexes now okay?" He asked me. I nodded, and he hit my knee with a small rubber hammer. "Perfect. Can you lay down for me Cam? I need to feel your stomach." Said Mateo. I shook my head, and backed into my brother. "Cam, he won't hurt you." Said my brother, trying to comfort me. I shook my head, crying into Gabe. "Shh, Cammy it's okay. You just need to calm down and relax. Mateo will not hurt you." Said Gabe. Eventually, I stopped crying, and looked back at Mateo. "Are you ready to try that again?" He asked. I nodded, and slowly layed down. He then lifted up my shirt a little bit, and felt around my lower abdomen. A minute later, he was done, and I sat up. "Can I just get your height and weight now Cam?" Asked Mateo. I nodded, and stepped on the scale. He took note of the numbers displayed, and gestured to some other thing for me to step on that measured my height. He wrote down my height, and I went back to Gabe. "Has there been anything bothering you lately?" Asked Mateo, and I shook my head. "Good. Now all I need is a blood sample and you need a vaccine, and then we're all done here." Announced Mateo. At the mention of needles, I tried to run, but Gabe caught me. "Cammy, calm down. It's not that bad. I'll hold you the entire time." Stated Gabriel. I started to calm down a little, and then I felt Mateo grab my arm. I whimpered. Gabe was tried to keep me calm, but I burst into tears. I felt Mateo wipe my arm, and I cried into my brother. "It'll be over soon Cam. Sharp scratch." Said Mateo. He pierced my arm with the needle, and blood flowed through the tube. A minute later, he removed the needle, and put a small bandaid on my arm. "Just one shot, and then you are all done Cam." Said Mateo. "You're doing so well." Gabe whispered to me. Mateo took hold of my arm again, and wiped it. I turned into Gabe, crying again. Then Mateo injected the vaccine into me, and threw it away. Gabe picked me up, and rocked me in his arms. "I'm sorry baby girl." He said, comforting me. "It's all over Cammy. You did it." He whispered to me. I sighed, cuddling into him. "I'm sorry Cam." Said Mateo. "But it had to be done." "It's ok, I forgive you." I said to him with a small smile. Gabe carried me out to the car, and put me in the seat. "How about we go get some ice cream?" Suggested Gabe. I smiled and nodded. "Don't tell Finn or Mitch." He said with a smirk. He drove us to the ice cream shop, and I got a small cup of mint chocolate chip, and Gabe got a cup of triple chocolate. We sat on a bench outside while we ate our ice cream. "Are you excited for the junior twins to go to med school?" Asked Gabe with a smirk. I groaned. "Why are you guys all doctors?" I asked him. "I really don't know." Replied Gabe. "We all like helping people, and we had the brains, so we just decided to go for it." I sighed. "I know you don't like it at all Cam, but think about it. You don't have to worry about the junior twins, they're not even in med school yet. I don't even give you check ups, Mateo does that. You see Finn and Mitch for the dentist, which I know sucks, but that's only two brothers. You don't need to worry about Tyler, and he's always on your side. You don't have to worry about Charlie, because you don't need surgery. That's two out of seven brothers." Said Gabe. "I guess." I replied. "It's just that when ever something is a tiny bit wrong, you blow it out of proportion, and I feel like I'm being put under a microscope, with all of you examining me." I said to Gabe. "I can understand that." Said Gabe. "I remember when we were all younger, before you were born. When Charlie was seven, he already knew he wanted to be a doctor. He always wanted to play doctor, but mom and dad wouldn't let him play doctor with any of the twins or Tyler, because they were too young, so that left me." Said Gabe. "When I was six and Charlie was seven, and he wanted to play doctor, I didn't have a choice, so eventually I just got used to someone examining me. Charlie being Charlie just got me used to the idea of doctors, and eventually I became interested in medicine." Gabe explained. "I think Charlie rubbed of on all of your brothers, and now they are interested in medicine. They grew up with Charlie playing doctor on them, and got used to it. But by the time you were born, Charlie was 12, and by the time you were old enough to understand what was going on in the world and remember things, Charlie was already 17. He didn't play doctor anymore, and he never really gave you check ups. That might be why you're the only one out of all of us that hates medicine." Explained Gabe. "I don't want to be scared." I said. "I just can't help it." I leaned into Gabe. "I know you can't." He comforted me. "If you want, I can 'play doctor' with you a few times a week. It might help you get over your fear." He suggested. I nodded timidly in reply. He smiled at me. "That's my girl." He said. "We should probably head back now, it's getting close to dinner time." He said. He got in the car, and we drove home. Once we got home, we all ate dinner together and watched a movie. Then, I went to bed, dreaming of a world where my brothers weren't doctors.
