once we had gotten to the kitchen we mal started making the cookies and i sat on the counter with carlos and watched as i ate snacks from the fridge

"All right. It says that we still need one tear, and I never cry." mal told us as she read the step "Let's just chop up some onions." carlos said grabbing one

"No. It Says that we need one tear of human sadness. And this love potion gets the best so we have to follow it exactly." she told us mixing it more and jay scoffed "A tear's a tear."

"That's not true, Jay. They both have antibodies and enzymes, " evie started "But an emotional tear has more protein-based hormones than a reflex tear." i said since i've actually been paying attention in class and that's one of the only things sticking in my head

"Listen to you two." mal smiled at the two of us and jay scoffed again "Yeah, I knew that." he told us and carlos laughed "Did not." "Yeah, I did." before they could wrestle lonnie walked in scaring us

we quickly covered mals book and smiled at her as she smiled at us "There you are, Mal! I was looking for you. You know, all the girls want you to do their hair! Midnight snack, huh? What you guys making?" she asked looking in the bowl

"Nothing special. Just cookies." mal said and she stuck a finger in the bowl taking a bite making us panic "What? I'm not gonna double dip." she told us

we all looked at each other worriedly "Feel anything? Like we're missing anything?" i asked her and jay went over to her and looked flirting

"Hey, there." he said and she starred and looked back at mal "It could use some chips." she said walking to a cabinet "Chips?"

"And those are?" mal asked signing in relief and she walked over with a bag "Chocolate chips. Just the most important food group." she told us and we just stood confused "Wait, didn't your moms ever make you guys, like, chocolate chip cookies? Like, when you're feeling sad, and they're fresh from the oven, with a big old glass of milk, and she just makes you laugh and puts everything into perspective and... why are you all looking at me like that?" she told us before seeing our faces having never gotten to experience that

i looked down at my nail and carlos rested his hand on my arm rubbing it slightly with his thumb "It's just different where we're from." mal told her shaking it off

"Yeah, I know. I just, you know, I thought... Even villains love their kids. Oh... How awful." she said sadly as a year fell

mal noticed and wiped it from her face letting it drip into the bowl and she mixed it up "Yeah, well, big bummer, but we have to get these into the oven, so thank you so much for coming by. Really, really have a good night. I'll see you tomorrow. Evil dreams." she said walking her out the kitchen "Good night."

"See you tomorrow. Okay, boys, cookie sheet. Evie, JJ oven." she turned to us when lonnie was far enough away and we all stood up

"Yes, ma'am."
