a hell of a ride

The couple head out to the apparatus floor in search of peter mills having gotten word that squad decisions were being made that day.

"Mills" kelly calls out, "we wanted to give you a heads up, boden got word squad decisions are being made today" carter explains, "this could be your last shift on truck" kelly points out as the two head back inside, "hey carter, I got something for your brother" herrmann says as he hands the woman a large pillow, "what the hell is this thing and why does tk need it" carter asks, "It's a pregnancy pillow, Cindy used it up to the 7th month, It helps with back issues and whatnot, tk gives that to Shay when the time comes and he will be her hero" herrmann explains, "okay, thanks" carter nods gratefully, "hey, having a kid is the best thing they'll ever do" herrmann announces, "yeah, that's what I've been hearing" carter agrees as the alarm goes off, "squad 3, truck 81, engine 51, ambulance 61, battalion 25, structure fire. 3015 south california avenue" the alarm
announces.

The three lieutenants walk up to boden outside the prison.

"Casey, build a small team together, go inside, Strand, Severide, I want squad standing by for RIT rescue" boden instructs which sends the two racing towards the squad rig to wait, the two lieutenants join boden as the head officer explains the system reset to him, "we are not waiting anymore" boden announces, "do what you gotta do chief" the officer agrees, "get 'em out lieutenants" boden instructs, "yep" kelly agrees as carter turns around and signals the squad men, the two pick their gear up and begin to head towards the entry way but stop to talk to shay, "was that the doctor?" carter asks, "yeah, it didn't take" shay explains sadly, "damn" carter remarks matching shays tone, kelly gives the paramedic a reassuring pat as he drags carter away from her and towards the entry way.

Kelly examines the large steel door proceeding to stand up.

"Boy, they don't make this easy, do they?" kelly asks, "well, that's kind of the idea" the prison officer explains, "well, bolt's pretty hard to get to, I'm gonna take the hinges instead" kelly explains, "shield" capp warns the officer as kelly hands him his helmet and pulls the face shield on and fires up the cutter, kelly pulls the hinges off with his halligan as bodens voice comes over his radio, "hey, chief, just finishing the first door now, but we're going through a lot of blades" kelly explains as carter works to replace the blunt blade whilst kelly assesses the door again, "security studs? you watched me cut through all these hinges and you didn't tell me that they got security studs?" kelly asks, "I didn't build the place" the officer defends, "no one's saying you did but there's no way you didn't know or at least have a suspicion there was security studs" carter explains, "Capp, prep the torch, we gotta cut through this bolt after all" kelly instructs, "all right, you got it" capp confirms.

Kelly finishes cutting through the door with the torch and pulls it open with his halligan, capp rushes over to move it which allows the lieutenants to walk into the next corridor to the second door.

"Hey, Chief, we're through the first door, maybe we should turn back and start cutting our way to Casey" kelly suggests, "negative, that would take too long, you keep going, find Mills and Dawson" boden instructs, "Capp" kelly calls beckoning the man over with the torch, capp hands kelly the torch and kelly switches it on beginning to cut through the second door eventually getting through it a lot quicker than the first door, carter knocks on the third door which leads into the corridor they suspect mills and gabby to be in, "Dawson, Mills, you in there?" carter asks, peter mills face comes into view confirming he and gabby were in thst corridor, carter turns to kelly and the other two men, "It's Mills, they're in there" carter confirms as capp hands kelly the torch again she quickly moves aside and back watching as kelly begins cutting through the third door getting through it just as quick as the second door which allows shay to get a backboard in so she, gabby and mills can get the victim out, "chief, victims on his way out to you" kelly radios, "thank you Severide, now you get to the basement and the quicker the better, cause apparently this facilities guy is the only one who can get the power back up, I know you and Strand can
find that man and get him out" boden explains.

The two lieutenants walk down to the basement taking capp with them.

"Hello? Roy? anybody down here?" kelly calls out, "over here! down here, I'm trapped! help!" the facilities guy calls out, "hey, chief, we found facilities Roy" carter reports, "good news, get his ass out here" boden instructs as capp and kelly set the torch box down, "we're out of cutting rods" capp reveals, "damn it" kelly remarks, "hey, can you talk someone through resetting the electrical system?" carter asks the facilities guy, "It's against union rules" the man explains, "there's a firefighter being held hostage, I think they'll give you a pass" carter explains, "yeah, yeah, yeah" the facilities guy agrees, "chief, he's gonna relay instructions" kelly radios, kelly talks mouch and otis through resetting the electrical system relaying what the man would tell carter to the two in the facilities room, "Casey the power resets gonna take a minute but Otis and Mouch have their instructions" kelly explains, "hey, Severide, Strand, if you're still in the basement see if you can locate the supply duct for pod four" casey instructs, "you got it" kelly confirms as he, carter and capp search for the duct, "Severide, Strand, did you find that supply duct?" casey asks as carter pulls the duct open with her halligan, "yeah, big problem, Casey, we got the fire, we're putting it out now" carter
says, "no, not yet, we need the smoke, there should be a smoke damper, It should have closed when fire alarms went off" matt explains, the three squad members search for the damper, the two lieutenants about giving up when capp spots it, "Severide, Strand, right there" capp points at the damper, "got it" kelly tells matt, "okay, break the linkage on the damper and open it manually, hurry" casey instructs, kelly takes his axe to the damper breaking the linkage, "dampers open" carter announces, "all right the fans are blowing casey" kelly reports.

The crew sit in the waiting room of lakeshore medical centre in support of herrmann and cindy when herrmann enters the room holding a small bundle, shay and carter hurrying over to get a glimpse as kelly laughs at their eagerness placing his hands on carters shoulders as he peers in watching his girlfriend and their mutual best friend coo over the small baby.

"Herrmann this kids the cutest thing I've ever seen" carter announces, "he's beautiful" shay adds, "yeah" herrmann agrees, the crew fuss over the baby for a few more minutes, "gonna take him back to the room, all right?" herrmann explains, "congrats, brother" otis says as herrmann begins heading up the corridor, the man turns around looking at the three roommates, "oh, hey, hey, hey, you guys? Cindy wants to see you three for a minute, okay?" herrmann explains the three follow herrmann back to cindy's room, "hey, there" shay greets, "hey cindy you look amazing what's your secret" carter greets, "come here, you guys" cindy instructs the two women who had taken it upon themselves to provide relief for the herrmanns after cindys previous hospital admission by taking the kids out and doing school drop offs and babysitting and kelly, the three walk over to cindy and the woman hugs each one, "congrats" kelly says as he kisses cindy's cheek before pulling carter into his arms playfully, "thank you" cindy smiles, "knock it off" herrmann warns playfully as he places the baby into cindys arms, "so Cindy and I wanted you three to know, if you're, well, we were hoping that" herrmann begins struggling to find the right words, "we want you three to be Kenny's godparents" cindy announces, "you don't have to answer right now" herrmann says as the two cfd women look at each other excitedly, "I'd be honoured!" shay agrees, "count me in, It'd be my pleasure to be this little guys godmother" carter agrees, "hell yeah, man, me three" kelly adds as the three laugh, kelly and herrmann share a hug as the two women coo over baby kenny with cindy as kelly and herrmann pull out of the hug, "kelly, I want one, can we have one?" carter asks playing a prank on kelly, "not right now maybe in a year or two" kelly says, "see his womanising days are behind him" shay announces to.
