AZHAIPAAYAA AZHAIPAAYAA? : 6

Sivaangi put her phone away, turned off the lights and lied down. The warmth in her heart seemed to persist and the palpitations hadn't eased, not one bit. Lying on her side, she stared at the street light leaking through the gaps in the window's curtain. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes. All she could see were his eyes. Sighing she blamed her sleeplessness on the light from the street and turned away from it. She decided to listen to some music to lull her into sleep. Hitting play, she closed her eyes only to listen to Hariharan sing about a budding relationship.

Thayakangal vilagudhey
Thavipukal thodarudhey

Groaning, she hit stop and admonished herself "Sivaangi, you're reading too much into this. Ethana thadava indha paata ketrupa, Ippo Enna pudhusa?".

Rummaging around her closet to find an old sleeping mask, she went back to lie down with the mask sitting firmly over her eyes giving her the darkness she thought she needed to fall asleep. His face was all she could see, his face from the other day when she realized he had been watching her through the mirror at the restaurant, his confidence in unabashedly looking at her knowing full well he had been caught red handed, his face when he smiled at her in a room full of people he worked with at the screening, his face from earlier that night on the call, the smile on his lips, the eyes that looked at her like he owned her- her heart, her thoughts.

Taking the mask off, she got up and sat on her bed. She asked herself, "is that what his eyes looked like? Like I belong with him?". While her heart wanted to answer yes, her brain contradicted the opinion of the organ that merely pumped blood. She wondered aloud, "May be he is looking at you like he looks at everyone else. Do you want him to look at you differently?". Chewing on her nails, she paced around her room for a good couple of minutes before she called Priya.

When Priya answered her phone, Sivaangi started with a "Free ah? Appram koopdava ?". Priya replied "Illa, night shift sonnenla. At L&D, we just have two moms we are waiting on. Will take some time for them to go into labor. Enna indha time la call panniruka?". She stayed quiet for a few seconds only to be urged on by Priya, "Sollu Vaangi, what's up?".

Taking a deep breath, she decided to talk about her feelings to her best friend, "I think Enaku Ashwin ah pidichuruku". Her best friend replied nonchalantly, "Of course, yaaruku dhaan pidikaadhu. Enaku kooda dhaan pidichuruku". Shocked Sivaangi replied "what the fuck Priya?!". Laughing, Priya replied "relax, was just messing with you. Apdi oru padam Surya ku edutha yaaruku dhaan Ashwin ah pidikadhu. Andha maari". Quietly Sivaangi added, "Enaku andha maadhri Illa, vera maari pidichuruku solren".

Clearly what sounded like she was smiling Priya asked "September yaaro he is my friend nu sonnanga? Naalu vaaram munnadi naa kettapo love laan Illa nu sonna. Ippo Enna thideernu?". Sulking Sivaangi answered, "Adhu pona maasam, idhu indha maasam". Not wanting to give her friend a chance to tease any further Sivaangi added, "naan Avan ta solla poren. Pidichuruku nu. I think he also likes me like that. Aana bayam ah iruku. Thappu panrenaa? Am I reading too much into this?". Priya tried to reassure her by saying, "idhuku edhuku bayapadanum? You like him and you're expressing what you feel. If he doesn't want to take this further, not the end of the world. You will be hurt, May be you guys can't be friends anymore. But you'll move on. Oru Ashwin illana Dulquer. Avlo dhaan life".
