"You're finally awake" it was gentle, happy, the owner's eyes crinkled as unshed tears were overshadowed by a soft hearted smile

She was welcomed with kindness

She did not recognize him and yet something in her brain told her it was okay, that gnawing feeling of sanctuary burning within her, it was that safety, it was those pleads

It was the first time she did not awake from slumber through a cold, vile, mind-chilling numbness. The first time she awoke without having her limbs strapped to a chair. The first time she awoke to be tucked in gently atop a plush bed with comforting blankets

The very first time she awoke to a smile

Before it was a sense of urgency, to be yanked from bed instead of peacefully cracking open eyes as the brain brought you back to reality, but she decided she liked the latter, she liked the way the here and now played out

"Bub-" she called "Bubba"

"She's okay," the voice chuckled and her vision took in his dark hair and scruffy face, but she recognized the sound of him, not only from the pleads but from the comfort

"Eri Now!"
"I'm sorry sweetheart"

She recognized it from the day the younger cried, the coaxing sound that soothed not only the small child's heart but hers as well

"O-Okay" she sighed, feeling the biting sensation in her chest decompress and the tension lifted. Gently she moved her arms, feeling her body spark into motion, slowly she pushed herself up, feeling slightly rickety

"Are you feeling okay" Aizawa asked gently, slightly blanking on how he handled it with the younger, she had cried yet Eri remained calm

"I-" she coughed out, voice hoarse "okay"

Or she seemed calm

It wasn't obvious but he could see the lingering fear behind her irises, however it appeared that she wanted to trust him even if parts of her were scared

To Eri, Aizawa seemed safe, his grin stated that fact blatantly and the faint coo of his she could hear also solidified that, however even though her body and mind told her it was fine, deep down in her heart she could feel that suffocating fear

Do not trust

It said

Be afraid

He wasn't Chisaki, he wouldn't hurt her and yet, despite his kindness her nerves reigned. It was a baseless fear yet it still existed

"Would you like some water kid" he asked, gently, carefully

"water," she said meekly, sitting up in bed, still quite disoriented, "y-yes please," she was timid. Standing up he carefully made his way to the pitcher atop the corner table before pouring out a glass. He had prepared it this morning in hopes of her waking
