"Place For Us"

Hey is there a place for us?
Where flames flicker and wave for us?

We can see the future
and the dreams it's made of

Hey is there a place,
a place for us?

Chapter SEVEN

As the week progressed, so did our training. Once we had mastered the art of dodging and the roundhouse kick, Blake went on to teach us other basic moves, like attacking and defending ourselves. Thankfully no one got seriously hurt in the process, though I could tell Jane was itching to try her newly learned moves on Rickie but she controlled herself, which was just as well.

"I feel like I could kick some serious N.G.O. butt, now!" Jackie exclaimed one day after practice.

"Yeah, me, too." I agreed after chugging my water.

"Me three," Jane echoed.

"Me four!" Ella chimed. That brought up the mood a little.

"Where did you learn all this stuff, Blake? You're such a natural!" Jane asked, sounding only slightly jealous.

Blake shrugged. "At this academy a long time ago... where try trained us as soldiers. We went through brutal training... it was quite harsh."

We all stood still very still, our interest piqued.

"Like, for the US army?" Asked Ella.

"Something like that."

"Really? What did you do then? How'd you end up in New Ferry?" Jackie asked in wonderment.

Blake shifted on his feet, posture stiff, his eyes focused on a wall. "Let's just say after the NGO's uprising, I left all of it become and went into hiding, never staying in one place, staying out of the New Government's radar, until I came upon New Ferry." He scuffed his shoe against the dirty tile. "I decided to stay for a while, just for a month or so... One thing lead to another, I got comfortable, and they offered me a job..." he shrugged, trailing off.

"Well, we're really happy to have you with us. Your talents are invaluable." Rickie gave him a silly salute, making Blake smile.

He did have a point. I was very glad he was on our side.
