What wonders your words bring me,

something you simply cannot see.

Heaven has gone incognito,

I peer through your obscured window.

What you present; I've been expecting,

yet never once thought your words could sting.

All at once the air grows bleak,

wraps my neck and sweeps my cheek.

By degrees my smile falters and fades,

play it cool when inside it aches.

At this point I'm hating myself,

into coat pockets these quivering hands delve.

For once angels have brought sorrow,

destroyed my high hopes of a rosier tomorrow.

For once angels are not wonders,

for my soul has shattered asunder.
