I hide from the sun, soft sand
carpets the tips of my toes
Across the golden coast
brilliant blue caresses the shore
Where the dry and the damp meet
the certain and uncertain become one
The horizon draws itself
a line I have never crossed
You ease into the sea, warm water
blankets your shoulder
Beyond crystalline waves
the currents echo your name
and when the blue swallows
you leave not a trace
As I plash and plod
ripples swim in your wake
The sand pricks, the salt stings
Maybe there's a reason
that salt dissolves
while sand sinks
How could you have been so rash
How could I have been so blind
You vanish into the ocean floor
this shoreline between us is no more
