You'd be surprised how many superfluous words and sentences are in your manuscript. Here is a detailed compiliation, with examples, of all the words you can, and should, cut from your writing:

Keep in mind that of course exceptions exist based on the context of what you're saying, so use your judgment before cutting something out. You don't have to cut every single adverb or reword every sentence in passive voice. Look at the context around that word(s) and figure out if you're really saying what you want to say in the most concise and understandable way possible.
