I let out a heavy sigh as I entered the penthouse. It was pitch dark outside but the lamp in the living room was turned on, indicating that Jared was unfortunately home.

I placed my bag on the table in the foyer and walked into the kitchen for a glass of water.

"Where were you?" came Jareds distant voice as I opened the fridge.

Damn.

I was expecting him to ignore me or leave me alone but as always, I was wrong.

I turned around to face him with a grim look.

He was wearing casual clothes, a black top with grey joggers. His hair was ruffled but his face looked exhausted.

I knew he was having a hard time but it wasn't my fault.

He could've ended this whole thing.

But no. He just had to want to marry me.

"I was at a friends house," I replied, averting my gaze from his cold eyes.

I heard him mumble something to himself but chose to ignore it.

"I've been wanting to talk for a while now but you keep avoiding me."

"Yeah. It's because I don't want to talk," I swiftly replied as I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and closed it.

I turned around to face him and could see he was irritated by my response.

He huffed and rubbed his temple. "Can we just pretend to be adults for one second and have a serious conversation?"

I glared at him but gave in and nodded my head.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to hear him out.

I'm leaving anyways so it doesn't matter what he says.

"Fine. What is it you want to say?" I asked as I walked towards him.

He nodded his head and motioned for me to follow him.

He led me to the office and took a seat behind his desk.

I leaned against the wall near the desk and crossed my arms in front of my chest.

He shuffled some papers on his desk and handed me a beige folder.

I took the file hesitantly, eying it curiously.

"What is this?" I asked, as I examined the cover.

It read 'Confidential Report. Property of the Cunning Corporation.'

He leaned into his chair and cleared his throat. "Open it."

I raised by brow at him and opened the file to see a picture of Harry, his cousin, on the first page.

What the hell is this!?

Why is he showing me this?

My eyes widened as I saw this was a personal report about Harry and his life.

"Do you know who that is?" Jared asked as I flipped through the file.

I abruptly closed the file and threw it on his desk. "No. Who is he?" I asked nonchalantly.

I looked him in the eyes and noticed how intensely he was looking at me.

Stop looking at me like that.

I'm trying my best to hide my emotions you jerk.

"What?" I asked. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
