A duke in the Middle Ages had a variety of employees and servants who served him in different capacities. Here are some of the key positions and roles that a duke typically had:

Chancellor: The chancellor was responsible for the administration of the duchy and took care of record-keeping, document writing, and communication.

Marshal: The marshal was in charge of organizing and managing the ducal court and the army. They often oversaw the organization of tournaments, festivals, and other events.

Chamberlain: The chamberlain was responsible for the management of the duchy's finances. They supervised income, expenses, taxes, and the administration of the ducal estate.

Steward: The steward was the chief administrator of the ducal household. They were responsible for organizing and coordinating the ducal court, the servants, and the everyday operations of the duchy.

Knight: A duke often had a number of knights who served as advisors and fighters. These knights fought in battles, participated in tournaments, and defended the duchy.
