Henry and I let go of the hug we were in, so I walked to the living room, sitting in the usual purple single chair. I can't believe that for two years I've been sitting in this place, how quickly time moves... wow, it's been a long time since I thought about San Diego.

Anyway, I sighed and leaned back on the couch, until I remembered a very important fact that was happening and that we were forgetting.

"Oh! Right, what happened to the step?" I asked, after 5 minutes of watching and just watching.

Kris and Piper continued fixing the step while Henry walked towards the living room.

"Dad broke it while chasing a racoon down the stairs," Piper said, calmly.

I opened my eyes wide and stood up from the couch. A raccoon, really? Well, Swellview was exotic animal territory, but really?

"A raccoon?" Henry asked, surprised.

I think he thought the same as me.

"Yeah," Kris answered, "but don't worry, he trapped it in the fridge."

"The fridge?" I asked confused.

Kris turned to look at us and gave us her mom smile that Ray loved... okay that's weird and it will never stop being that way.

"Don't worry," she spoke calmly again, "we unplugged it and drilled some air holes."

"Drilled?" Henry asked this time in the same way as me.

I looked back at the refrigerator and it was moving from one side to the other, making animal sounds. A lot of strange things have happened to us with Henry and Ray, but the fact that there is a raccoon in Henry's refrigerator is strange.

"Animal control said they'd come get it, but it's Sunday, so they might take a while, they love brunch."

Henry and I turned to see each other, and I simply raised my arms as a sign of not knowing what was going on.

"I never thought that when I turned 17, my parents would give me a raccoon as a gift," he told me, smiling, "Frozen raccoon."

"No one expects it, Henry, no one expects it," I responded, touching his shoulder, "so 17, you're old."

My friend put a hand on his chest as if he was indignant, how exaggerated.

"Do I look that old already?" he asked with an indignant tone.

"Yeah, yeah," I replied sarcastically, "I'm sorry my friend, you've  got gray hair, you just can't see it because of your blonde hair." I made a grimace with my mouth, I approached him and ruffled his hair.

"You are older than me".

"No," I said innocently.

"Yes".

"No".

"Yes".

"No".

"Yes".

"No".

"Your birthday was 5 months ago, and we wouldn't be in the same class."

Fair point, I held up a finger to show that he was right. Gosh, he beat me. It was a little game we had between us, whoever was more right throughout the week had to buy each other ice cream on Friday, kinda silly, but it's fun somehow.

Henry smiled at me and hugged me by the shoulders, making us both walk towards the usual beige sofa, there we sat down and my friend took one of his gifts from the table to open it.

"So can I open my presents?" He asked with one already in his hand.

"No, not until your dad gets home," Kris answered, taking the gift from him.

I watched as Henry rolled his eyes and raised his arms, I couldn't help but let out an amused little laugh, poor boy. But it was true, Jake was nowhere to be found in the house, no wonder Piper was very quiet and calm.

"Where is Jake?" I asked.

"Yeah, exactly, where is he? When is he coming back?" this time Henry asked, 'annoyed.'

"Uh, he's picking up your cake and getting tested for rabbies." Kris responded, as calmly as possible.

Henry and I frowned, and looked at each other in confusion, although to be honest it wasn't that strange.

The Harts were a different family, compared to what was an ordinary American family. Starting with the fact that the father is afraid of his own daughter; The only thing the mother does is enjoy her life as a 'Hot Mom', as Ray calls her; the daughter is practically the boss of this house; and the son has a secret identity as the local superhero's sidekick... I said it, it's all common.

But despite all that, I loved the Harts very much, because in the short time that I had lived in Swellview, they have received me in such a loving way, that I can say that I would rather be here than at my grandparents' house with my siblings.

"I can't believe your dad could have rabies," I said to Henry, with an incredulous smile.

"Yeah, well, I wouldn't be surprised," he responded in the same way, "anything can happen, especially to him."

I stood up from my seat and walked a little way to the purple couch where I had left my phone. When from one moment to the next, the door opened revealing my other two friends.

"Hey! Happy your birthday! Happy your birthday!" Jasper had entered first. "Here, open my present."

He very cleverly threw the gift in what was supposed to be Henry's direction, but it ended up hitting Piper in the head who was walking by, causing her to fall to the ground. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Jasper!" she complained.

I approached Charlotte and crossed my arms. "He's going to kill him," I whispered.

"He's already dead," Charlotte answered in the same way.

"I'm sorry!" Jasper shouted. "I just wanted Henry to open my present."

Wait, wait, wait... did he say MY GIFT? His gift, it was on the table, I went to pick up his gift to Junk N' Stuff, HIS gift from him.

"Now he's dead."
