When Naguano was summoned by Bamidal, he imagined it had something to do with Japan.

"Naguano, I am returning to the mainland temporarily."

So when he heard these words from Bamidal, it was surprising.

"Vacation? I envy you, sir."

"I'm on business. I've been tasked with sharing information about Japan with the Navy's leadership again. That's the reason."

It was indeed about Japan. Naguano felt both relieved and disappointed. The more information he gathered about Japan, the more it seemed like a dangerous country. While proud of realizing the danger of Japan early on, every time he touched information about Japan, he worried about the future of his country. Despite understanding the importance of his job, he couldn't help but think, "I wish I didn't have to know."

Without unnecessary inquiries about who the Navy leadership was, Naguano anticipated his boss's needs.

"What kind of information do you want?"

"Something that anyone can understand about Japan's technological superiority, preferably Japanese industrial products. I'll leave the detailed choices to you."

"Understood. I'll inform the Acquisition Department—"

"No, I want you to go to the field yourself and make the selection."

Naguano couldn't understand for a moment.

"Sir?"

"The agents in the Acquisition Department are savages from the former Leifor. They can't provide a technical evaluation. So, I want you to infiltrate Mu and choose Japanese products yourself."

A cold shiver ran down Naguano's spine.

"I am a technical officer, sir. I've never done undercover investigations."

"I'm not asking you to do everything alone. I've already talked to the Acquisition Department. You should receive maximum support."

There was a knock on Bamidal's office door.

"I'm from the Acquisition Department."

Without waiting for a response, the person opened the door and entered the office. The man on the other side looked ordinary from any angle. He was a forgettable type.

"Are you Mr. Naguano?"

"Yes, but who are you?"

"Call me Ar."

"That's a quite unusual name. Are you from the former Leifor?" Bamidal asked. It seemed to be their first meeting.

"I am a pure-blooded Imperial. Just like you. You should know that foreign-born individuals are not allowed in the Intelligence Bureau."

"What about your name then?"

"I said, 'Call me Ar,' but I didn't say, 'Ar is my name.' ...I prefer not to have my real name known to outsiders as much as possible."

The Acquisition Department seemed to be a nest of weirdos. Naguano felt nothing but unease.

. . .

Naguano's worries turned out to be groundless. He wore the prepared clothes, went to the designated location, and boarded the provided vehicle. At customs, he showed the prepared documents and answered as instructed. With just that, he successfully entered Mu. Contrary to expectations, the Acquisition Department's hideout in Mu was surprisingly sophisticated. It was a proper trading company.

"How did you manage to get this company?"

In response to Naguano's question, Ar answered with apparent boredom.
