Arranging the fluffy scrambled eggs onto the charming Hello Kitty plate, already adorned with golden pancakes and a medley of fresh fruit, I reached for the chilled glass of orange juice and set it gently on the island counter. Glancing at the Apple Watch encircling my wrist, I noted it was 7:50 am.

A significant morning unfolded before us, as today mark Solèigh's first day of first grade. At five, Solèigh she were only enrolled in daycare only, so now that she's six, she's ready to take on Kindergarten. I couldn't help but wish that Ebony could witness our little one's first day at school. Still, I pushed the thought away as I didn't want to dampen Solèigh's spirits or mine.

After ensuring Solèigh's breakfast was meticulously prepared, I ascended the stairs to rouse her for school. Gently easing her door open, I couldn't help but smile at the peaceful sight of her, sound asleep.

Not too long ago, Ebony and I had revamped the guest room, transforming it into her personal haven. Adorned in shades of pink and oozing femininity, her room even had a vanity set, complete with a Hello Kitty chair—evidence of her adoration for the character.

"Soléigh, sweetheart, it's time to rise and shine for your first day," I whispered, nudging her gently to break her deep slumber. Several tries later, Soléigh's eyes fluttered open, a grand yawn parting her lips, eliciting a chuckle from me.

As Soléigh sat up in bed, her bonnet slipped over her head, concealing her freshly styled silk press. "Are you nervous for your first day?" I asked, curious to know her thoughts on the daily routine that awaited her, seven days a week.

"Yeah, I'm scared that I won't make any friends and they won't like me," Soléigh expressed, her lips forming a pout. She reached out and took my hand as I guided her off the bed, ready to head downstairs for a delicious breakfast.

My expression softened with concern as I gazed down at her. "You'll make plenty of friends. You're such a sweet girl," I reassured her, boosting her onto the kitchen island to enjoy her breakfast. With school starting at 8:25, we had ample time for her to savor her meal, get prepared, and for me to help build her confidence.

"I hope so" Solèigh said.

I pressed a kiss to her forehead, then moved to the sofa to fetch the new shoes she'd chosen. Unboxing them, I removed the tissue paper and set the shoes atop the box on the coffee table. Gratefully, I remembered ironing her clothes the night before, saving us precious time this morning.

"It's almost time for you to get dressed, Léigh. Are you finished eating your breakfast?" I called out to her from the living room.

"Yes ma'am! I need help getting off of this stool though." she said, her voice filled with struggle. With a quiet chuckle, I made my way to the kitchen to offer my assistance. Helping her down, I then took her empty plate and placed it in the sink.
