~ I'm the girl

You've heard of her

You know her from the awards

Which one was it?

The writing award

Yes, that's it

She won the writing award

that was against the whole grade

all eighty of us and she won

The teacher read her story 

for the whole grade

at the assembly

you all clapped for her

Her face burned up

she was embarrassed

by her wonderful work

of literary art

Now you think hard

she's in a lot of your classes

she knows the answer

but never raises a hand

She's pretty smart

but you wouldn't know

she only talks to those two girls

glued together by the hips

She has pin straight blonde hair

and bright blue eyes

She's not skinny

she's just...

She wears hoodies and jackets

Isn't it hot for that?

She works quickly and quietly

She's really good at volleyball

She's not pretty

she's not ugly either

she's just there

existing

You don't really know her

Like you do other peers

she looks like she has lots to tell

she seems kind of sad

I have a brilliant mind

yet you wouldn't know

I talk through my words 

think through my pens

I'm the girl behind the brains

I'm the girl behind the blonde hair

I'm the girl behind the sad blue eyes

I'm the girl behind the words that you never stopped to listen to.
