Dear Diane,

She already had lunch plans. Unfortunately.

However, she agreed to have lunch with me tomorrow! Which is exciting. I haven't had a friend here in a while, since the breakup. Since the breakup made her leave, I ruined the office culture. It's a wonder I still have my job.

Maybe I should dump it here for my therapist. I haven't talked much about Riley.

Here's the simple, like, breakdown. Let's hope I don't have a breakdown.

Riley and I met in college.

We started dating a few weeks after meeting each other.

We spent a year in college taking the same classes to be with each other.

We got the same job at the same company when we graduated.

We moved in with each other.

Everything changed drastically.

Figured out that while we were living together, that we really did not align in the way we thought we would.

There was a lot of fighting. A lot of screaming.

A lot of physical fighting.

A neighbor called the cops when they saw her hit me.

She was carted away.

Everyone blamed me.

I got a protective order.

She quit her job and moved out while I was gone.

She said she loved me, which I do believe.

She sent a letter a while ago, explaining that she thought the house made her crazy.

And now, a year later, I believe her.

I think the house is making me crazy too.

Sincerely, Diane.
