it started on the first day of seventh grade. she was excited about telling her friends she had grown three inches over summer break.

except, instead of finding her friends, she saw you and smiled. your eyes widened and you walked over to her, looking at her from head to toe. you frowned. she had grown tall, taller than average, but you still managed to tower over her. 

her heart rate picked up and she shifted nervously on her feet. looking down at her clothing, she made sure they were properly on. it had taken her mom and her time to find the right sizes. 

when she finally looked up at you, she saw the frown you still sported. 

instead of complimenting her, you insulted her. 

instead of a smile, there were tears staining her face.

instead of building her confidence, you managed to destroy it. 

you opened your mouth and said the words that ended her world:

"i liked you better when you were smaller."

and there was no way going back.
