ringing.

that was all yeseul could hear. all the shouts, the gasps, the sound, was drowned out by the high-pitched ringing in her ears. everyone was speaking, but no-one was being heard.

along with her hearing, yeseul's vision became distorted. at first everything was blurry, and then the ground started spinning. nothing that was told to her made any sense.

"are you bang chan's acquaintance?"

her heart squeezed in unbearable pain; it suffocated and yearned for the return of her most treasured.

"your name was written on his forearm."

"was?" she remembered muttering to the policewoman, her stomach churning uncomfortably.

"bang chan's body was found in bukhan river this morning."

yeseul walked forward, blinking rapidly to rid the tears, before looking down at the pale body that lay lifeless on the edge of the river. a bag of rocks were tied to his feet, and her name was smudged onto his arm.

"that's him." her voice cracked.

"i'm so sorry for your loss," the policewoman said, rubbing her back. "come down to the station, and we'll ask you a few questions regarding bang chan's death."

yeseul didn't respond. it was agonising, but she couldn't look away from the body. his eyes were closed, but he didn't look distressed at the least. if anything, he seemed content.

although she ached in the most torturous way, yeseul managed a smile. as long as you were happy, i'll be fine.
