Chapter 19: Lily's Next Step

The next morning, at quarter of dawn, in her dark and gloomy bedroom, Lily was crying on a floor next to her bed with her shawl wrapped around her as a blanket.

Her poor eyes were puffy and red from crying all night and her long and curly hair was down almost covering her whole face .

She couldn't sleep after everything that happened yesterday, leaving her beloved fox in the forest alone and knowing that Copper still going to hunt him down for her blame for Amos' old dog's injury.

There on a floor, she was whimpering and shivering at the same time.

She was also holding her bell that was still around her neck as if her mother was there to comfort her.

(Here is the instrumental version The Next Right Thing from Disney's Frozen II! I've changed some lyrics just a little bit!)

She started to have memories of young Tod and Copper playing together.

She felt that light of their friendship was dead now.

"Oh....Tod...Copper....", she wept quietly as more tears were falling. "This is all my fault...."

She started to remember those dark times at her younger times when her parents died before she remember those darker times yesterday and that other night as she sang tearfully,

"I've seen dark before...but not like this...

This is cold...this is empty...this is numb...

The life I've knew is over...the lights are out...

Hello, darkness, I'm ready to succumb..."

Lily looked at her bell and saw her reflection as she continued,

"I've followed them around...I've always have

But they've gone to places I cannot be..."

She started to sobbed as she sang,

"This grief has a gravity...it pulls me down..."

Sobbing and breathing, she thought she was hearing something in her head and looked back at her bell as she continued,

"But a tiny voice whispers in my mind

'You are lost

Hope is gone

But you must...go on

And do the next right thing'"

Lily then started to and tried to pull herself from the floor but only fell when she started to weep again clutching her acing stomach and chest as she sobbed and sang,

"Can there be a day...beyond this night?

I don't know anymore what is true

I can't find my directions

I'm all alone

The only stars that guided me were them"

She then looked up at the heavens and started to remember those precious days with Tod and Copper before she crawled over beside her bed as she sang in more tears,

"How to rise from the floor

When its not them I'm rising for?

Just do the next right thing"

Lily put her arms on her bedside before she started to pull herself steadily due to her shaking and numb legs as she continued her song,

"Take a step

Step again

It is all that I can to do

The next right thing"

As she fully stood up, she looked down at her bell, saw her refection and started to think.

Then she slowly raised her eyes, and looked at her window with curtains closed but shows the tiny sunlight that flashed at her wet face.

Then...her face turned slightly determined and walked over to her window as she sang,

"I won't look too far ahead

It's too much for me to take

But break it down to this next breath...

This next step...

This next choice is one that I can make!"

Lily opened her curtains, covered her eyes briefly due to the bright sunrise, looked out her window and looked toward the path where the Game Preserve is as she continued,

"So I'll walk through that night

Stumbling blindly toward that light

And do the next right thing!"

She then looked over at Amos's cabin and thought about her former friend before she shook her head with her hands placed in her hair and broke down in more tears as she sang in heartbreak,

"And with that dawn, what comes then?

When its clear that everything will never be the same again!"

She bowed her head as she let go of her hair, wrapped her hand around her bell, looked at it and slowly lifted her head and look toward the forest trees with determine as she finished,

"Then I'll make the choice....to hear that voice

And do...

The next...

Right....

Thing".

Sorry I took so long to get this chapter done!
