I smile as I look over at a laughing Mia, driving us along on the highway. She laughs at her own joke.

She quickly glances over at me, seeing that I'm staring at her, and her laughter slowly dies out. She fiddles with the edge of her shorts that she's wearing. And she stares out at the road in front of her, seeing when she should switch lanes.

We've been on the road for twenty minutes, I would say.

It hasn't been awkward at all. It's been like we used to be before the breakup.

We're going to the beach before we go back to my house to see the family. Mia said that Charlotte has something to show her that she made.

I'm not sure what Mia wants to talk about today, but as long as she's talking to me and not ignoring me, I'm good with it.

Mia starts humming to the next song as we keep whizzing past cars on the freeway.

My head bobs to the beat as I stare at Mia's side profile.

"Don't look at me," she mutters as she looks back to change lanes and catches my eyes.

"Why not?"

"My side profile is hideous. Please don't look," Mia tells me and moves over to the right another lane, heading toward the off-ramp.

"Stop," I rest my hand on top of hers and grab her fingers to play with them, "to me, you're the most beautiful girl in the world. No one can compare-"

She stops me as she pushes my head out of her view as she groans, "Oh, my. You're such a weird person. Don't be cheesy."

"Only for you, baby," I wink and kiss her knuckles as she gets off the freeway and takes a right into the Starbucks Drive-Through.

"Sorry, I'm a little thirsty," she gives me a cheeky smile and then pulls forward, "and I need some pumpkin bread from here."

"Oh," I groan, "their pumpkin bread is delicious."

"I know, right?" She pulls up to the window, and the worker starts her order.

"Hello! My name is Ariana. What can I get started for you today?"

"Hi, how are you?" Mia smiles at the creepy camera near the screen.

"I'm doing well, thank you!"

"May I have two slices of pumpkin bread," Mia starts, "and a venti strawberry açaí refresher? With a," she looks over at me, "A venti green tea?"

I nod my head with a low chuckle. "Is that all I can get for you?" The woman finishes, and Mia smiles.

"That's it! Thank you."

"Okay! You can pull forward now," Mia does what the woman asks and looks back over at me.

"I didn't know what to get you!"
