The moonlight bathes the lake in a soft, silvery glow, casting shimmering reflections across the water's surface. Standing at the edge of the lake, I watch as Marcus dives into the water, his laughter echoing through the night air. Part of me wants to join him, to let go of my inhibitions and dive into the cool embrace of the lake. But another part of me hesitates, afraid of getting wet and making a fool of myself.

"Come on, Sophie! The water feels amazing!" Marcus calls out, splashing playfully.

I smile nervously, shaking my head. "I don't want to get wet," I reply, my voice barely audible over the gentle rustle of the leaves.

Marcus pouts, pretending to be hurt. "Fine, I guess I'll just have to swim all by myself," he says, turning away from me with mock disappointment.

My heart sinks at the thought of Marcus swimming alone, and before I can stop myself, I reach out to grab his arm. "Wait, Marcus! I didn't mean it like that," I stammer, feeling a blush creep up my cheeks.

He turns back to me, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "Oh, so now you want to join me?" he teases, pulling me closer to him.

I giggle nervously, feeling a surge of excitement mixed with embarrassment. "Well, I guess I could dip my toes in," I say, tentatively dipping one foot into the water.

But before I can protest, Marcus grabs my hand and pulls me into the lake with him. I let out a squeal of surprise as the cool water envelops me, soaking my clothes through. I shoot Marcus a playful glare, but he just grins back at me, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Oops, my hand slipped," he says, his tone innocent but his grin betraying his true intentions.

I playfully shove him, laughing despite myself. "You're such a troublemaker," I say, splashing water in his direction.

Marcus splashes back, his laughter mingling with mine as we engage in a playful water fight. Despite my initial reluctance, I find myself having fun, the warmth of the water and the laughter of Marcus easing my worries.

Marcus swims around me for a moment, his gaze on me intense. It causes me to chuckle while wondering what he's thinking about.

Unable to hold it in any longer, I finally speak up. "Why are you staring at me like that?" I ask, and he shrugs, moving closer till he's just inches away from me, his eyes sparkling against the moonlight.

"Nothing. I just think you look really beautiful, mijn lieveling," he mutters, and my stomach does a flip.

"Don't call me that," I mumble even though I feel my cheeks heat up at his words. I look away from him, but he puts his fingers under my chin and tilts my face back to him. My heart races as I lock eyes with him, the intensity of his gaze sending a shiver down my spine.
