The Girl From The Apartment

So let me start a few weeks back before this story happened. Our family went to another country and stayed at an apartment. My nephew took many pictures of us and the apartment.

When we got back home, everything was normal until my nephew was looking through the pictures he took and said, "I miss her". In the picture was my nephew, my sister and me. I chuckled and said, "She's coming home from work soon". He got excited and continued looking through the pictures.

When my sister got home, I called for him. He excitedly went downstairs then looked around saying, "Where is she?" I giggled and pointed at my sister. "There". He kept asking me where. In the end, he got angry and called me a liar.

Of course, he was a kid so I still paid no attention to him. But one day, I noticed something odd. My nephew started talking to himself.

Again, being the oblivious person I am, I just assumed he was talking to an imaginary friend.

Two days later, I was watching some videos on my phone. There were crying sounds upstairs, but I shook it off assuming it was my baby niece. It stopped soon. The day turned dark and I was too lazy to turn the lights on upstairs. Usually the maid does that, but it was weird that she hadn't.

I called for her and she did answer me, but I didn't hear a switch open. My cat, who sat next to me, suddenly became alert. He looked at the empty staircase. By then, I started to panic a little. Especially since I saw my brother drive into the garage then finally realized I was alone in the house.

My brother was about to come in, but the door wouldn't budge. I heard a faint giggle and I wouldn't lie, I almost peed myself. I didn't show fear though. I said, "Alright that's enough". Finally, my brother could open the door.

Following him were my nephews, his wife, who was holding my baby niece, and the maid. So, I was finally catching on to what was going on. I took the iPad he was holding and deleted all the pictures and scolded my nephew never ever talk to himself again.

He told me how he was talking to the girl from the apartment and not to himself. He cried really hard as he did too. I shouted, "I don't want another word about this 'girl'!" I turned to the empty staircase and continued shouting, "Don't you dare go anywhere near my nephew or I swear to God, you'll regret it!"

My brother scolded me back, calling me crazy. However, ever since that incident my nephew stopped talking to himself and no more weird things happened in the house. I explained to everyone a few weeks after the incident. They finally informed me how things were always out of place; bottles were under the bed, my sister's glasses were on top of the cupboard and so on. My brother would always catch my nephew waking up in the middle of the night and talked to himself. It all stopped after that night.
