"Seriously?"
"Yeah and then-"
Before I can finish the story, I hear arguing and a squeal come from the other end of the line, then I hear a giggle.
"Hi! Are you Ollie's new girlfriend?"
The voice coming through was no longer deep, but high pitched and giggly. "No, no, we're..." I think about this for a moment because it's not like I can tell her I work for 'Heartache Hotline' and he's my client, "...Friends. My name's Macy, what's yours?"
I can hear Ollie in the background asking for his phone back but the girl ignores him.
"Oh hi! I'm Isabelle - Oliver's sister. It was nice to meet you. He's threatening to drop my phone in the sink if I don't give his back so I have to go."
I chuckle, "Fair enough, it was nice speaking to you too." All that I hear in response is shuffling before Ollie scoffs.
"Hey, sorry about that. What were you saying?"
"Um," I squint my eyes in thought, "Damn it, I forgot. I should get going now anyway, catch ya later!"
"Aw man. Okay, bye!"
"Wait," Biting my lip, I squeeze my eyes shut, "I'll be away visiting family over the next week, so you won't be able to reach me here. I can give you my number if you want? We could text if you're feeling down or want someone to talk to."
When Ollie doesn't respond straight away, I mentally face-palm, "Or not! You don't have to! I just thought maybe-"
"Okay. Only if you're sure. We've not met in person and for all you know, I'm a weirdo."
I mean, he has a point. "Well, are you?" I ask and he laughs.
"I can't promise that I'm not a bit weird, but I can promise I'm not some creep."
"Good enough for me. My number is *** *** ****."
"Alrighty then, I'll text you after we end the call so you have mine!"
"Sweet. Bye, Ollie!"
"See ya, basic quarter Italian girl."
