July was home to both Jiang Zhi Zhou and Jiang Yi's birthdays, only a few days apart, so every time Jiang Yi had a birthday, Jiang Zhi Zhou's birthday quickly came to mind.

But Xia Wei was unfortunate in this aspect.

Her own birthday was in November, nearly half a year away, so she had always felt like her birthday was easily forgotten.

Luckily, Jiang Zhi Zhou had always been terrible at choosing gifts. When her birthday was near, he would inquire about what she would like, so she would know she hadn't been forgotten.

This year, however, Xia Wei waited until the day of, yet he still hadn't asked her for a gift idea. Had he chosen one by himself? No, she couldn't believe it. Only his mother would like the kind of gifts he chose.

Then there was only one possibility - he had forgotten her birthday!

This made Xia Wei furious. Jiang Zhi Zhou had indeed been extremely busy recently, and it had now fallen upon her to shuttle Jiang Yi back and forth from school. But this was no excuse for forgetting her birthday!

She wanted to not beat around the bush but just remind him about it, but she couldn't help but feel resentful. So she resolved to wait and see.

Even after she had brought Jiang Yi home, Jiang Zhi Zhou had still not inquired about what gift she wanted. Xia Wei took a long breath and called his phone to test the waters.

  "Xia Wei, what's up?"

"Not much. Just wanted to ask if you were coming back for dinner tonight."

Jiang Zhi Zhou thought for a moment. "It depends. Work might run late, and it might be difficult to get away."

"I see." Xia Wei smiled. This person must have forgotten how to run out of work!

Reluctantly resisting the urge to slam him right there and then, Xia Wei hung up the phone. She remembered the topic of birthdays having once come up before in the group of girlfriends. Eight Treasures had announced that all men were like this. Only when they were chasing you and had just caught you would they shower you with sweetness and passion. Over time, they would begin to take you for granted. Xia Wei, as an 18-year-old girl, resolutely opposed being taken for granted.

Why can't an old wife have sweetness and passion? If she wanted that, would she have to get a new husband?

"Mommy, what's wrong? Are you feeling funny?" Jiang Yi stuck her little face in front of Xia Wei, staring at her with wide eyes.

Xia Wei smiled. "Mommy is doing just fine. You go do your homework. Daddy might not come back for dinner tonight, what would you like to eat? Mommy will make it for you."

"Ummm..." Jiang Yi thought for a moment. "Mommy, don't do it. Last time you got splashed by oil, Daddy was so mad. Let's get takeout."

  Xia Wei: "..."

  Okay.

Probably seeing that Xia Wei still looked unhappy, Jiang Yi thought that it must be because she didn't want to get takeout and quickly comforted her. "Mommy don't worry! When I grow up, I'll make you yummy yummy food."

  ...goodness, what a lovely daughter.

She patted Jiang Yi on the head, reminded her to continue working on her homework, then picked up her phone to order out.

Jiang Zhi Zhou was also holding a mobile phone right then. Jiang Man Man had called. Picking up the phone, he asked, "Man Man, what's up?"

His words were quick and clipped. Jiang Man Man asked, "Uncle, are you busy?"
