SHOULD

Our lives revolve around a constant expectation of what should be.

We make decisions, take actions, and base our entire existences around what we predict should happen.

When you open a door, the handle, should turn, it should swing, and you should be able to walk through.

And there should be nobody on the other side.

We've all witnessed what happens when these presuppositions aren't fulfilled.

People follow through with their actions.

Walk right through the doorway, and collide, or almost collide with other people, depending on the speed of their reactions.

But also, on how strongly you feel there should have been nobody on the other side of the door.

I realised this when I went for a 3am snack. I've always favoured cookies.

As I reached blindly into the jar I knew exactly what should be in there.

Not even once did I stop to think what could be in there.

I knew so strongly what should have filled the jar, that I raised it straight to my mouth an put it in.

Then I felt it move.
