There Was A Poem

There was this poem that I once wrote
Just one of those things to keep myself afloat
It went something like I wish, I want,
I hope, I pray, I need, but I can't

There was another one I had written
Where I was in love and my heart was smitten
It was fairly beautiful and mostly true
Except for that it wasn't thought through

So many words have come and gone,
So many things remain undone
I wish, I want, I seek to flaunt
But all of my dreams continue to haunt

So many things I've said and done
And so much more I've set to do
And yet much still remains to be
For I know some will never be

There was this poem that I once wrote
To try and cope with how I felt
To try and relieve the guilt I had
And let go of the stress on my belt

To try and make sense of my emotions
Or the lack thereof, I think I said
I said I'd get up and go out, take action
But even today I'm still in bed

I was done with barking and I said I'd bite
But it turns out that jaws can break
And it's no use giving people a fright
So I'll go back to barking again

There was this poem that I once wrote
Much like the one I've written now
And like so many more yet to come
So I'll spin a tale and take a bow
