Small and round beneath the whispering trees,
She is veiled by tall jade blades of grass, chewing
The sun-warmed freshness between sharp little teeth,
As her soft brown ears flicker in the morning light
And beady eyes dart from hill to hill, where
Mama sits with a gentle, watchful gaze;
Knowing her baby is fed and safe
From the hungriest of nature's children.
The baby hops over, wiggling her tiny nose,
While Mama licks her from ears to toes,
Her big warm body keeping Baby close,
As she snuggles deep into her furry side,
Closing her eyes to another cozy night.
