A traffic whistle of birdsong alerts human feet
To jump aside, as two gray, long-necked parents
Waddle their way across the black cracked street.
Behind them trail four fuzzy gold heads,
Bobbing along to Mother's low, honking beats
With beady black eyes that absorb the massive sights,
Of slick human legs beyond their mother's behind--
Swaying in the breeze like storm-swept trees.
But Mother honks and they turn long black noses
To a quiet corner, shaded by curled pink petals of roses.
The sky ripples andswitches into a soft orange-pink,
As yawning fuzz-babies drift into a delicate sleep.
