I'm fine

yeah, right
   so why
   are there tears
behind my eyes?
why is there
   a lump in my throat
I can't swallow down?
   why am I
   hiding?

I'm fine

yeah, dream on

so why do I run out?
seek the shadows?
escape the crowd?

fine
I'm fine

maybe if I say it enough times
it will come true

I'm fine

look into my eyes
can you see that I'm lying?
no
   you smile
   oblivious
I have become too good
   at fooling other people

where does the mask end?
I don't know anymore

people are too easy to fool
especially if they
have other things to do

they're not to blame
I am
but I'm too afraid
to take off the mask

what if they don't care?
it would make it worse
for me
much worse

I don't want to be a bother
waste your time
put you in a spot

   I nod and smile
have you noticed
that I don't laugh anymore?
that my eyes
contradict my words?
