walking at twilight
            looking at the moon
through the branches
      stepping into the shadows
blending in

                  breathing the cool air
      eyes wide and yet unseeing
feet dancing slowly yet surely
              deeper into the forest
        into the darkness

                        moonlit face
                            silvery eyes
                   a half-smile
        she walked into the night

               shadows playing

        she danced with them
following the night breeze
             blending in

   her steps grew quieter
closed eyes in a moonlit face
          silver tears on pale cheeks

        the night called softly
the shadows swayed gently
            go back, it's not time

she shook her head, I can't
I've lost the way and the light

  the moon touched her hair
                    I will shine for you

      but the way? she asked
I will help you find it
          the breeze whispered

                            I will be alone
                she shook her head

          we will dance for you
              the shadows promised
we will wait here for you

        the night called softly
    the shadows swayed gently
                   go back, it's not time

              she took a deep breath
                    opened her eyes
           filled with silent words

she followed the breeze
in the light of the moon
stepping through the darkness
                         lightly, carefully
               through the night

by the edge of the trees
        she found the dawn
