After receiving a rather distressed call from bella , the brunette rushed to the cullens house and saw the horror inside , she saw bella . But it was a baby , and she knew protecting it was the right thing to do . She knew she couldn't speak to the wolf pack about it or even see them or else she would feel guilty and she didn't want to support their decision to destroy the baby . She overheard them saying it and left immediately . However what shocked her next was Jacob , Seth, Leah and ... no ... it couldn't be ... she saw embry . As they walked into the living room where everyone stood around bella Layla just stared blankly at Embry as she walked over to him and prodded him " what was that for ?!" He questioned accusingly " I didn't think you'd come I thought I was seeing things " She explained as she let out a happy laugh " your actually here ... you went against Sam " " he told me to tell you that even though you have different opinions ... you've always got a home there and after this is all over it's always still gonna be your room . He's not mad he just misses you ... they all do " Embry spoke with a sad smile as he let his hand rest in hers . Giving each other a reassuring squeeze they stood next to Jake .
As the days turned into weeks , bella looked more or less dead . The cullens had been feeding her blood however and that seemed to help . Embry did not once leave her side no matter what as the brunette witch comforted her friend and often performed spells to let bella hear the baby's heartbeat.
After a tiring day embry and layla sat on the steps of the cullens home as he said " they're good people aren't they ?" " yeah embry I know they might be vampires but they're warm-hearted people believe it or not " " I'm glad you opened my mind up love " " I'm glad your here "
However a scream from inside alerted the two as they darted inside to see Rosalie being dragged out of the room and Edward over bella who was clearly in labour and screaming as Layla rushed to her side and let her squeeze her hand as hard as she pleased . As embry stood outside with Seth and Leah Layla cried as she held bella , she had a feeling she wasn't going to make it . All of a sudden a cry was heard and everyone in the room sighed in relief . All until bella froze , unblinking and ghostly white . " bella ... BELLA WAKE UP BELLA PLEASE BELLA NO YOU CAN NOT LEAVE ME HERE " A screaming Layla was pulled out by Jacob as he pulled her outside after saying something to Edward . As she got outside she fell to the ground sobbing as Jacob fell beside her and the two cried into eachother as embry Seth and Leah watched on almost wanting to cry themselves . As they let go of eachother Alice and jasper came out of the house with Edward as the wolf pack emerged out of the trees . Layla was pulled up by Leah who held the girls hand and gave her a squeeze . The two weren't particularly close but when needed , they were there for eachother . As the wolves protecting the cullens shifted embry stood by the girl as he glared at his old pack brothers . As the two sides began to brawl Layla managed to throw a few wolves off as none of them would physically harm her she had to protect the others . As Paul sank his teeth into embry she clutched her eyes shut and began to pop the vessels in his brain as he whimpered and she stopped as soon as he let go of embry , not wanting to hurt her best friend too much . Suddenly Jake came sprinting out " stop! It's over ! You kill her you kill me " As everyone came to the revelation that he had in fact imprinted on renesmee the wolves backed up .
All of a sudden Layla fell unconscious , luckily embry managed to catch her with his wolf form before she hit the ground as Alice came and lay her head down and tried to wake the girl . Paul and embry came running out from the trees , putting aside their past dispute as they kneeled beside the girl they loved and embry stroked her hair " Layla baby please wake up please god no " He whispered sadly as Paul held her hand and said " I'm sorry Layla I should have done the right thing I'm sorry please wake up " After a few minutes she woke up with a start , flinging herself at the closest person she breathed heavily in embry's arms as he smiled widely at the fact she was in fact breathing . As she turned around she saw Paul with a small tear roll off his cheek as he wiped it as quickly as he could " Paul ?!" She asked shocked as he nodded and pulled the petite girl into a crushing hug as she said " you never cry " " everyone has a soft spot " He replied as he let the girl go . As Carlisle kneeled in front of the girl he said " you haven't been sleeping well and you've not eaten in days Layla ... I'm afraid using your powers caused complete exhaustion which is why you passed out ... just try and sleep and eat regularly If you can " The man said with a small smile as she smiled back .
