Autumn

I promised to love you
with each falling leaf
that surrenders
to gravity's pull.

I promised the wind
to love you
with every breath
that I took.

And I silently pray
that the wind
makes its way to you
to remind you
that when the leaves
have all gone,
I will continue
to love you
even with the bareness of trees.

And I will continue
to love you
until new leaves
replace the ones
that I have offered.

And when autumn returns,
I promise
to love you again
with each falling leaf
