As we pushed back through the crowd I wish I could say I was paying attention. I was more or less still internally dry heaving from seeing that man. It indeed had been a long time since I'd seen him but even so my brain remembered the tone in his voice when he screamed at me.

"Hey," Ba Wei glanced behind at me, "are you okay?" I nodded and he let go of my arm. "Stay right here for a second. I'll go grab your bag."

Before I could even say anything he had already disappeared. As I stood there I couldn't help but wonder why his father said he could go to his room even though Ba Wei said outside that he wouldn't let him. It was strange that he folded that quickly. I mean my father was never that strict about me attending parties so I wouldn't know if it was a red flag.

"Hey," someone called, "you look new here."

I turned around and was greeted by a rather tall woman with very long dark hair. Her face was slim and she was fairly thin. Looking her over she was quite pretty, but she was definitely a bit older than me.

"Uh, yeah."

"Are you friends with Xiao Wei?"

I nodded, "you could say that."

She ran a hand through her hair, "that's a bit surprising if I'm being honest."

"Why," I cocked an eyebrow at her?

"Well, that young man doesn't keep many people close to him. He of course has friends but it's the first time he's brought someone to an event like this." She let out a chuckle, "I'm surprised that a pretty boy like you isn't afraid."

As she said that sentence our eyes met and I just stared at her. I would say that I was curious about what she said about Ba Wei but it would've been a lie. I was more focused or you could say annoyed at the fact that she complemented me.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind that she finds me attractive. I had an issue with how she went about it. I get it, my face doesn't really fit the the type of person I am, but having someone think that I'm squeamish because of this attractive face is annoying.

"I'm used to it," I said forcing a smile.

"Auntie," Ba Wei called out, "would you please stop flirting and hitting on my guest."

I watched as the woman's entire posture changed, "I am doing no such thing. I am just simply having a conversation."

"Yeah yeah. You said that about every person you're found flirting with."

As he said that he grabbed my wrist. I was expecting us to start moving but we didn't. Instead he stood there and talked with that woman. The entire time as they talking the eyes of that woman would constantly go to my wrist that he was holding then back to him. I wonder what's going through her head?

I pushed those thoughts to the back of my head and looked around. As I did I started to notice just how many eyes was on us. It was actually a bit concerning. I wasn't the type of person to back down even if I was out numbered but looking at the room; most of these men and woman could definitely beat my ass. Let's not stare too much.

I turned my attention back to Ba Wei and yanked my arm slightly. His head immediately snapped in my direction and we immediately made eye contact. I didn't say anything and just shifted my eyes. He seemed to get that I wanted to say and said his goodbyes.

He didn't waste anytime in pulling me all the way to the door of his floor. He quickly out in the code and pulled me inside. Once we were inside abs Wei let out a loud sigh. He dropped my bag on the floor and took off his shoes. I followed suit and took off my shoes.

"Are you okay," I asked as I walked up behind him.

"Yeah," he walked over and flopped down on the couch, "It's just tiring to act like I like those people."

I walked over and sat beside him without saying a word and his hand almost immediately went to my thigh. I didn't think anything of it and just started to stretch.

"Yeah. I know too well that pretending it very exhausting."

"Yeah but now I'm definitely gonna get my ass handed to me later."

"Why," I looked over at him confused?

He let out a sigh, "it's the mere fact that I asked. Of course he would let me leave but he knows that I understand the consequences."

"They why would you even ask to leave early? We could've-"

"You looked uncomfortable," he said cutting me off.

"Huh?"

"You looked uncomfortable when that guy started talking to you so I wanted to get you away from him as soon as possible."

I couldn't help but be a bit touched, "I can't say that I wasn't uncomfortable but you didn't have to get yourself in this situation just because of that."

He didn't say anything and just started to rub my leg. I looked over at him and to my surprise he looked a bit angry. I raised an eyebrow and leaned forward a bit. This seemed to get his attention since he made eye contact with me almost immediately.

"What?"

"Did what I say make you angry?" He didn't say anything and I couldn't help but chuckle a bit. "Well, let's start studying then."

"Not yet."

"Why," I asked annoyed?

"I'm more curious about something else."

When I heard that sentence I knew exactly what he was about to ask. I knew he would ask who that man was but I didn't think it would be this early. I ran a hand through my hair and sighed.

"What's that?"

"How exactly do you know that man?"

"Well," I scratched the back of my head, "he's the dad of someone I used to know."

"Used to? It sounded like you two were really close."

I shrugged, "I guess we were."

"That's interesting. What happened to make you not close."

I didn't say anything and just looked over at him. When we made eye contact I quickly looked away. In truth I didn't know what to say. I definitely couldn't tell the truth in this situation. Fuck.

"We just had a falling out," I said getting up. "Anyway let's get the studying over with."

"I guess okay."
