Duke Ergi's POV

"This trial will reconvene after a brief break."

The Emperor said so after Alan had confessed. He must have felt so embarrassed and couldn't help but pause the predicament.

With that, everyone were escorted to have a little banquet, since the events have just driven them crazy.

Kosair then went to me, bowed and whispered that Heinrey wants to meet with me.

I hurriedly went to the courtyard and looked at him, waiting.

"Your Majesty. You called?" I bowed.

"I guess Rashta has finally changed into our side, huh. However I am a little worried about one thing."  Heinrey explained.

"What do you mean? She's acting according to what we want. She exposed all of her crimes, shaming the emperor and having revenge for the master that abused her."

Heinrey chuckled and patted my shoulders, as if teasing me that I was infatuated at her or something.

"I never asked what's her reason of changing sides."

I shoved off his hand from my shoulder, a little annoyed.

"I'm not like you. We're good friends, that doesn't mean falling head over heels for the woman I am trying to get for my personal gain."

I snarled at him while fixing my coat and giving him the stink eye.

"That was a long time ago! I saw Empress Navier and thought that she is the greatest woman that I have ever laid my eyes on.  I know my initial intentions towards her are not as great, but that would save her from being with that...that...sorry excuse of an emperor." Heinrey said while sipping a goblet of champagne.

You have the guts to bad mouth someone inside their own empire, huh?

"But what if her doing this makes Navier stay?" Heinrey asked, looking like a little puppy that's worried its master might not come back.

"Don't worry about that. I took care of it."

After an hour, the trial reconvened and the line of questioning continued.

"What was your reason of running away from your master, Lady Rashta?"  The chancellor asked.

"The truth is.... I never ran away...." Rashta fiddled with her fingers.

She's a good actress, a cunning one too.

"You never ran away?"

Rashta nodded. "The reason why His Majesty found me while he was hunting was because I was ordered by Viscount Lotteshu to be there for some unknown reason... I did have plans of running away, but His Majesty suddenly saved me! It was a miracle!"

Sovieshu angrily stood up. "So you're saying that Viscount Lotteshu purposely lured you into one of my hunting sessions, make you my concubine and extort you?"

Rashta's POV

Everything seems to be falling exactly how I wanted it to be, but for some reason, after the break, Viscount Lotteshu doesn't seemed as tense as before.

Sovieshit then spoke ominously. "So you're saying that Viscount Lotteshu purposely lured you into one of my hunting sessions, make you my concubine and extort you for money?"

What Sovieshu said made sense into what I want to convey the court, but it coming from me would be suspicious, therefore I decided to act dumb.

"Rashta does not get it that much but I am just glad I am safe with His Majesty's arms..."

Chancellor sighed. He must be so done with my stupidity. Don't worry. I am too.

"It would appear the Viscount's ulterior motive is that."

Viscount Lotteshu raged. "That's not true! I would never! I sent you there so you could be disposed of!"

"And yet you still extorted her after she became my concubine anyway! Do you realize what you have done?!" Sovieshu said angrily.

I took a glance at Navier. She was just calmly sitting down and observing the whole thing. Probably being objective at things?

Navier's POV

I still couldn't wrap my finger around what I just heard during the trial recess. I ended up grabbing some fresh air as the nobles couldn't help but gossip about my personal feelings towards this predicament.

From a corner, I saw Kosair approaching towards King Heinrey who was talking to Duke Ergi. It seemed to be an unusual pair, so I tailed on them.

It wasn't very dignified, but I have eavesdropped in their conversation about Rashta changing sides.

Does that explain her the sudden and enormous change in her behaviour, but what stuck in my head was....

"I'm not like you. We're good friends, that doesn't mean falling head over heels for the woman I am trying to get for my personal gain."

These words from the Duke. As well as the time he told me not to trust King Heinrey that much.

It's messing with my head. I wanted to hear more about my conversation, but I never had the courage to continue it. I was also caught by Lady Libetti.

"Your Majesty! I've found you!" She teared up and hugged me tight. The poor child must have been scared from all that house arrest.

"Lady Libetti. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in the interrogation room?"

As much as I am relieved to see her alright, her presence worries me a bit, and that hunch was right.

"I don't know if it should concern you, Your Majesty, but.... the...Emperor! He talked to my father during the recess!" She announced to me.
