Review:
I haven't finished this novel. I read it from mtlnovel until 233. It's a bit hard to understand in mtl, on early chapters it explain the scholar exams which has a lot of poem or idiom. Then once ML become an official, there are a lot of politics which also hard to understand. The story itself is good. ML is not OP even if he has previous memory.
ML was a scholar from village, he forced MC to marry him. Then once he become official, a minister's daughter fancy him. ML refuse her, in turn he was demoted. He realize he need power, it was said he killed MC and marry the minister daughter. He become the prime minister or something alike. Then he met his son who supposedly die with MC. His son said he is not his son since he drowned him with MC. ML said he never killed them.
The truth from first timeline is ML love MC but he refuse to admit it. He can only force MC to marry him using his parent name. ML was demoted to remote area when MC is coming to capital. ML thought to let MC in capital but MC want to follow him. ML finally agreed, MC ship sank when she is on the way to ML. Later ML marry the minister daughter. The one who kill MC is the minister daughter. She is obsessed with ML. It seems ML never have children with the minister daughter.
In 2nd timeline, ML dream about his past. It is not a direct rebirth like usual which make ML too OP and perfect. ML is confused after he dreamt. He realize that he in the dream has wrong attitude. He tried to stay as himself while using his memory to prevent or improve his relation with MC.
MC was saved by ML parent. She was sold as slave, she run away and bought by ML parent. ML father died when he went out with his older brother. ML father forced his brother to promise taking care ML and send him to school. Soon ML mother also died, leaving only MC and ML. MC is 2 years older than ML, she become ML child bride after ML mother died. MC always regard ML as her younger brother while ML is too shy to admit that she is his child bride. After he got the memory, he tried to make MC think him as a man.
MC open a business and support ML so he can go to school. ML make his family separate from the big uncle and grandpa family. ML grandpa has 4 sons and 1 daughter. The first son is a scholar who got doted by the grandpa and grandma. All the other sons need to support the first son which make them dissatisfied. The second son is ML father who become carpenter. The third son is a farmer while the fourth son selling something in the market.
ML grandpa and grandma always partial to the first son so the other sons were suppressed to support the first son. In the end they found out that ML father died because of the first son. ML at that time has passed the exam and got 1st place. The family afraid to offend him so they expel the first son. But soon the grandma make a fuss and asked him back when ML is in school. The first son got sick and was taken away because it can cause epidemic. The grandpa died in anger because of ML grandma.
ML went to the capital with MC. MC start business again. ML exam was replaced. He drum the injustice gong and plead to emperor. ML took exam again and become first place but he was despised by the minister and placed in small department. The minister daughter took fancy of him, her father then promote ML. ML still refuse them which make him relocate to remote area. This time he took MC with him. They found out that there's a lot of smuggling since the area is close to the sea. ML make a plan that won the citizen heart.
MC got kidnapped by pirate because of the minister daughter. Later MC found out she was pregnant. She stayed with the pirates until she is about to gave birth. ML found her and took her back. There are some politic in between but I skipped them since it make headache. MC gave birth to twin, a son and a daughter. Time skip to several years. They went back to hometown and found out that the grandma died. She was killed by the previous patriarch family. It was the minister scheme to make ML resign from his post due to filial piety.
