What was left was a destroyed pocket in the universe. An entire dimension, broken. Sound familiar? That's because the remains of Flatland became the nightmare realm. Bill himself describes the nightmare realm as his own decaying dimension. A place so broken, that no laws of the universe (Like gravity, size of atoms, speed of light, unchangeable things) existed. It truly is his OWN decaying dimension.

Sometime after he burned his dimension, he became a demon himself and started to rule over what was left of the now nightmare realm. And yes, I say became a demon. Flatlanders aren't demons. However it is always possible in the Gravity Falls version of Flatland all the shapes were demons! We just don't know for certain and so for now let's just say Bill became a demon.
Criminals of the universe ended up finding refugees within the Nightmare Realm. Eventually, Bill came across all his henchmaniacs, and the Bill we know and love became the Bill we are familiar with.

And as a small addition, I would like to take this time to mention three of his henchmaniacs because I've seen others comment on them. Some believe that Hectorgon, amorphous shape, and kryptos are all Flatlanders.

Kryptos, while certainly the member who looks most like Bill, is not a flatlander. Remember there is one feature all Flatlanders have. Either one mouth or one eye. Both function the same. Krypotos has both an eye and a mouth. Meaning he can't be from Flatland. It's possible he is from a very similar dimension (In about 3-4 sections I will go over this). Or it's possible he copied his form to match Bill to either please him or show respect. Remember within the nightmare realm there's no laws of physics. Meaning that anyone could change how they look if they know how without anything stopping them,
