Elijah was about to stand up in a fit of anger.

Fit of ferocity.

Fit of rage.

Niklaus, his brother, held on to his arm. "Do not think impulsively, brother."

Elijah removed his arm from his brothers grip roughly and turned to the man, who stared at him with a smirk.

"I fail to see the reason why I am turned down when asking for your daughter's hand." Elijah said, his tone annoyed.

"It goes against nature itself." said daughter's father, Richard, spoke. "It could create an imbalance in our community."

"One marriage is to cause an imbalance?" He asked rather smugly, knowing that wouldn't be the truth.

Richard laughs, not genuinely, as he stands to go pour himself whiskey. "I am not blind, Lord Mikaelson."

"What do you speak of?"

"You and your family are what nature would call an abomination."

Kol let out a laugh, trying to cover it up with a cough as Niklaus sent him a glare. "Pardonnez-moi, suppose-t-il que nous nous soucions de ce que la nature pense de nous?" (Pardon me, does he assume we care what nature is to think of us?)

"Calme-toi, Kol." (Quiet down, Kol.) Niklaus scolded as his eyes stared at Elijah's fisted hands. "Comme vous pouvez le voir, notre frère s'accroche au dernier peu de santé mentale qui lui reste." (As you can see, our brother is holding on to the last bit of straining sanity he has left.)

"C'est ce qui arrive quand on tombe amoureux d'une sorcière." (This is what happens when you fall for a witch.) replied Kol. "Je l'ai prévenu de combien c'était difficile." (I warned him of how difficult it is to be.)

"Elijah n'écoute jamais." (Elijah never listens.)

"Pourquoi le ferait-il quand il est amoureux?" (Why would he when he is in love?)

"I did not ask what anyone nor anything is to think of me or my family." Elijah said. "I am asking for your daughter's hand. Not yours nor nature's."

"And I will tell you again," Richard took a sip. "No."

The taller man, Elijah, looked ready to pounce, that is, until a loud bang of wood came from the living area.

Everyone other than Elijah looked to the closed door, wondering what prompted that sound.

Elijah, he could not care less.
