Definition of eating disorders: a range of physiological disorders characterized by abnormal eating habits

Body dysmorphic disorder-obsessive worry about one or two body parts where one thinks there is a flaw in, and it is not noticed by others
People with BDD might constantly look in the mirror, measure their body parts, put on lots of makeup, excercise a lot, seem reassurance, do plastic surgery, brushing hair, changing posture or pick their skin.
Common worries of people with BDD is that an area(s) of the body are:
Out of proportion
Too big or too small
Disfigured
Lacking symmetry
One type of BDD is muscle dysmorphia, where one has an inaccurate belief of how much muscle they have.

Anorexia nervosa- an intense fear of being overweight that leads to little or no eating and excessive exercise.
Symptoms:
Feeling like you always think about food
Thinking you have to be perfect
Feeling lonely
Reducing food intake
Count calories
Hide food or throw it away
Avoid foods with high calories and fat
Cut food
Checking weight
Fainting
Low blood pressure
Feeling cold
Osteoporosis
Water electrolyte imbalance
Isolation
Loss of periods
Constipation
Vomiting
Bruises
Brittle nails
Dieting
Dry hair and skin
Headaches
Depression
Slow heart rate
Weight loss

Bulimia nervosa-fear Of gaining weight that leads to binging and purging
Symptoms:
Compulsive or impulsive behavior
Binge eating
Self harming
Vomiting
Dehydration
Fatigue
Hunger
Anxiety
Guilt
Mood swings
Heartburn
Inflamed esophagus
Constipation
Food aversion
Water-electrolyte imbalances
Bad breath
Cavities
Dry mouth
Weight changes
Loss of periods
Sore throat
Abnormal taste
Poor self esteem

Binge eating disorder-binge eating food without purging(throwing up)
Eating quickly
Feeling like they have no control when binging
Eating until feeling uncomfortably full
Eating large amounts of food when not hungry
Eating alone
Fears eating in public
Steals or hoards food
Isolation
Concern with body weight and shape
Looking in mirror
Feeling guilty or disgusting
Low self esteem
Fluctuations in weight
Stomach cramps
Hard time concentrating

Atypical anorexia-meeting all the criteria for anorexia, but without the weight loss.

Excercise bulimia- very similar to bulimia, but instead of purging, they excercise to loose weight instead.
Symptoms:
Tracking how many calories you lose when working out
Feeling anxious, guilty or angry when missing a work out
Measuring yourself to see how thin you are
Feel the need to work out more
Seeing your body in an accurate way
Becoming angry or defensive when someone says you excercise too much

Anorexia athletica(aka sports anorexia, compulsive excercise, or hypergymnasia)-when someone achieves a low weight through extreme excercise.
Symptoms:
Ongoing preoccupation with exercise
Feeling guilty when work out schedule is not followed
Working out instead of doing work or going to school
Feeling isolated
Loss of more than 5% of healthy body weight
Lying about how much they exercise
Basing self worth on how much they work out.

There are other types of eating disorders, including orthorexia, other specified feeding and eating disorder (OSFED), and AFRID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder)

Body dysmorphia is no longer in this category. It is in the obsessive compulsive and related disorders category. But I will keep it in this chapter.
