Samantha's leg was shaking, as well as her hands. Everything had been slowly drifting apart, and not even the smile of her love could make her feel better this time. She wanted to stay positive, that's what she had been doing for too many years, but she was tired.

She just needed at least one good news, something to lift her up and give her hope. One was all she needed, but at the rate the things were going, it seem improbable.

❝Ms Castle❞ someone called, and she immediately looked up, seeing one of the assistants of the department ❝you can come in now❞

❝Thank you❞ she smiled at the girl and took her purse, walking towards the office. She knocked twice, and once she heard a confirmation from inside, she entered the office ❝Hello, Amelia❞ she smiled at the woman, but the smile she received in returned was not as wide as hers.

❝please, Samantha, sit down❞ Amelia pointed at the chair in front of her desk and sat down as well, cleaning her throat ❝I appreciate you coming in so sudden, especially in these circumstances, my condolences to you and your family❞

❝thank you❞ Samantha managed to give her a tense smile, her heart still grieving ❝what is it that you wanted to discuss? Has a decision been made?❞

Amelia sighed heavily, she hesitated but nodded, and Samantha's heart drop, the little hope she had was deteriorating, she already knew the answer. It was too good to be true.

❝I'm sorry, Samantha, I really am❞ Amelia pursed her lips, shaking her head ❝the decision has been declared inconclusive, they don't think it's appropriate to conclude your case, they want more proof❞

❝more proof?❞ Samantha scoffed, shaking her head ❝what else do they want? They have the documents, the oaths, the records of the associations, they have all the bloody proof

    ❝I understand your anger—❞

❝No, you don't❞ she whispered, her bottom lip shaken ❝you don't, and I'm happy you don't know how it feels❞

❝There's still a chance❞ Amelia leaned in chair, reaching for her hand. She didn't pull away ❝they agreed on redeciding soon, you're so close, but you need to hold on, just for a little more, okay?❞

Samantha nodded, looking away. She didn't want to argue with anyone, not anymore ❝okay❞ she whispered.

❝Everything will be okay❞ Amelia smiled, squeezing her hand.

    Samantha almost laughed.

Samantha could barely hear anything else beside her beating heart, it pounded so loud and heavy, that not even the instruments could drown the sensation spreading in her body.
