Scarecrow

The cornfields were endless when we traveled west. The husks were scattered all around. And a lone scarecrow was guarding its territory against those who dare to steal. But a shadow overhead cast a shadow enough to eclipse the day. It swooped down and large talons perched on the scarecrow's shoulders. The monster's eyes fixed on me. And its wings stretched and covered the scarecrow, protecting it from me. Its feathers were darker than the moonless nights. And its eyes looked at me with contempt. I stepped back and looked for you. But behind me was an endless field of golden straws. The sun was burning through my clothes. But my hands were covered in chills. I turned away and ran as fast as I could. I ran with nowhere to go. I ran until my legs burned out until the fields gave way to the meadows. And that night, I dreamt of golden fields and a lonely scarecrow shielded by the raven.
