Cancer

There was always a line that separated you and me
You never noticed me and I never noticed you
That was how the earth was meant to be

Then you fell and I helped you up
You smiled in gratitude
The room lit up and my heart did a little jump
Then you stood up and walked to your seat a smile plastered on your face
You didn't seem to feel the hurt

I was awkward for a while
Until they dragged me over to you
And you seemed to like everything I did
We got along

You were strong
And called yourself a Wonder Woman
If people insulted you
You did it back ten times
Using the philosophy that "I say it back worse so they can feel the hurt of their words in other people's hearts"

You said nothing could hurt you unless God
And no human would stop you
The world seemed to hear that

You found out about it
Kept it to yourself
Begged the teachers not to tell
And you laughed with the same energy you always used

We didn't know you were in pain
But one day your carefully hidden secret was opened
You fell
You fell in front of everyone
And finally we knew
I knew

You were sick
But you were strong and believed you would be fine
You said "I told you people I'm strong. I'll be fine"
How hard it was to believe

I stayed by your side
I was scared to leave you
My best friend and the one I loved
I didn't want to let go

But then you were gone
Gone without a word
The one I loved

That's what made me have the dream
The dream to be a doctor
I'll find the cure for your sickness
I won't let anyone feel what I felt
I'll fight cancer
For the one I loved
And still love
